Marion Bannach

  • Marion Bannach (1890-1977) was the oldest daughter of nine children born to Polish immigrants in Portage County.  Her parents spoke fluent Polish, German, and learned to speak English after arriving in the U.S.  The family valued education; all their children attended school.  All nine Bannach children completed high school and eight of whom completed college.

Ms. Bannach graduated the State Normal School in 1913, presently the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.  Marion's professional life included being a teacher and superintendent of Portage County Schools from 1918 to 1941.  As the superintendent, Ms. Bannach was in charge of 125 schools and would do her best to visit each of these schools during the course of the school year.
