Title II Digital Accessibility

 Digital accessibility means making sure that websites, apps, documents, videos, and other online resources can be used by everyone, including people with disabilities. This could include using a screen reader, needing captions, or adjusting colors and text size for easier reading.

 WCAG stands for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. “2.1” is the version, and “Level AA” is the standard that federal law requires. It covers things like:

• Adding captions to videos.
• Making sure text and background colors have enough contrast.
• Writing descriptive alt text for images.
• Ensuring documents and PDFs are tagged for screen readers.

 In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice updated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules to make it clear that public schools must make digital content accessible, not just physical spaces. Schools with our enrollment size must comply by April 24, 2026.

 The rules apply to new and active content. Some older, archived materials may be exempt. But if a document is still being used (registration forms, calendars, or handbooks), it must be updated to meet accessibility standards.

• We’re auditing all of our digital content and prioritizing updates.
• Staff are being trained and given tools to create accessible content.
• We’re working with our technology vendors to ensure new tools meet accessibility standards.
• Progress will be shared publicly so families know what’s happening.
