United States Department of Agriculture
(The following information is taken directly from the USDA Nutrition Programs website.)
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is responsible for providing a safety net for millions of Americans who are food-insecure and for developing and promoting dietary guidance based on scientific evidence. USDA works to increase food security and reduce hunger by providing children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education in a way that supports American agriculture and inspires public confidence.
The USDA provides critical nutrition assistance through Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) programs that include child nutrition programs, among others. The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) is responsible for developing and promoting dietary guidance that links the best evidence-based scientific research to the nutrition needs of Americans.
Child Nutrition Programs administered by FNS provide healthy food to children through programs that include the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Summer Food Service Program and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
The USDA administers many other programs to strengthen the nutrition safety net. For example, the FNS Food Distribution Programs distribute USDA-purchased food to school children and low-income families, emergency feeding programs, Indian reservations, and the elderly. USDA purchases a variety of food products in support of the National School Lunch program and other Federal feeding programs. These purchases help to stabilize prices in agricultural commodity markets by balancing supply and demand.
The USDA Nutrition Programs website contains links to valuable information regarding nutrition, assistant and research.
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
(The following information is taken directly from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) School Nutrition Programs homepage.)
The WI DPI School Nutrition Team (SNT) provides nutrition information and program guidance to sponsors of the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Special Milk Program, Wisconsin School Day Milk Program, Afterschool Snack Program and the USDA Foods Program. The SNT is also responsible for a variety of nutrition education initiatives that involve collaboration with other state agencies, UW-Extension, and regional and statewide child nutrition advocacy groups.
SNT Mission Statement: To ensure a strong nutritional foundation that supports learning and development for all students through state-wide leadership, guidance, partnership, and advocacy.
The WI DPI School Nutrition Programs homepage contains links to many topics covered by their programs.

The Wisconsin Harvest of the Month campaign encourages children and families to eat more fruits and vegetables by featuring a seasonal, Wisconsin-grown fruit or vegetable each month. Students are encouraged to taste, explore and learn about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables.
Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, Inc., dba Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin (DFW) is a non-profit organization funded entirely by Wisconsin's dairy farm families, created to increase the sale and consumption of Wisconsin milk and dairy products.
