School Nurses

The Stevens Point Area School District, school nurses are registered nurses who are committed to providing exceptional health service that support every student’s academic success. Whether your child is newly entering the district or has been here for an extended period, communication between home and school regarding your child’s health needs at school is vital in assisting us in our work. The health and safety of our students is our highest priority.

School nurses are trained in CPR (resuscitation) AED (defibrillation) and first aid. Some of our many duties include:

  • Identifying, evaluating and managing the health needs of all students and staff.
  • Identifying, evaluating and managing students with special health needs.
  • Administering medications and procedures as prescribed by a physician.
  • Providing first aid, emergency care, CPR (resuscitation) & AED (defibrillation)
  • Helping families to find physicians, health insurance and local health centers.
  • Managing the control of communicable diseases within the school environment.
  • Keeping records of immunizations and physical examinations for all students.
  • Working with guidance counselors and outside agencies on student health issues.

Is my child well enough?

Attending school is important, but staying home when sick prevents the spread of illness. Please keep your child/youth home if they:

  • have had a fever of 100.4 degrees or more, and should remain at home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without medication to keep the temperature down.
  • have vomited or has had diarrhea, and should remain at home for 24 hours after it has stopped.
  • have a persistent cough.
  • have any rash with fever.
  • have open or draining skin sores.
  • have inflamed or draining eyes or ears.
  • have tested positive for COVID, students may return to school five (5) days from the onset of symptoms once they are symptom free for 24 hours. Masking is optional.

The District has also posted information about symptoms and guidelines for common communicable diseases.

Please notify the school attendance office if your child will be absent due to illness. With your help, we can promote good attendance while protecting all students' wellbeing.
