Driver's Education

  • Driver's education is a formal class or program that prepares a new driver to obtain a learner's permit or driver's license.

After much thought and consideration, a decision has been made to CANCEL the 2020 SPASH Summer Driver Education program.

With the uncertainty our country and world is presently experiencing we are unable to determine if, let alone when, we may be able to run our summer program. This will be the first time since the early 1970's that we will not run a summer driver education program at SPASH. This is something we do not necessarily want to do, but we feel it is in the best interest for the safety of our students and families. We also feel now is the best time to make this decision, so you have the opportunity to make other arrangements rather than wait and have to cancel at a later date.

All families will be receiving a refund from the Stevens Point Area School District for the entire amount of the Driver Education fee they have paid to date.

Your child is welcome to attempt to add Driver Education to their 1st quarter class schedule or any other quarter next school year. To do this, you would need to contact their school counselor at SPASH to see if they can adjust their schedule to make this work for them.

Due to the uniqueness of this situation, those students who have already secured a Temporary Permit will be allowed to keep their permit at this point. I am attempting to gain more information from the state of Wisconsin so this could be subject to change? If so, I will be in contact with you. Know that for the time being your child's permit is still valid and they can continue to drive with you at home. The restrictions of who they may drive with and who may ride along in the back seat are all listed on page #6 in the Wisconsin Motorist Handbook. Here is a Link to that handbook for you. https://wisconsindot.gov/Documents/dmv/shared/bds126-motorists-handbook.pdf

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you. I hope you understand that this situation is, for all practical purposes, out of our hands, and that the decision was made with your child's best interest in mind.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

    Thank You,
    Stay Safe!
