At Plover-Whiting Elementary, we recognize that parental involvement is like an iceberg. So much of it takes place "beneath the surface". Many parents may not be able to be visible at school as volunteers. However, as a parent, you can help support your child's schooling by doing things such as: keeping in touch with their teachers about concerns and successes, supporting the school staff on student behavior issues, reading to your child at home, listening to your child as they tell you about their day at school, helping support their completion of homework, etc. These are so important to a student's success in school, and yet are perhaps "invisible". The positive effects, however, are not.

Mr. Coffman with K-6 PW Students

Hello!  My name is Carl Coffman.  I have been the principal at Plover-Whiting Elementary since the fall of 2005.  Prior to coming to P-W, I was the principal of Jackson School for 12 years.  Before coming to the Stevens Point district in the fall of 1993, I was the elementary principal in Waterloo, Wisconsin for three years.

I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a masters degree in Educational Administration, both from UW-Madison, where I also played in the Badger Band for three years.  I have taught elementary school for 10 years, 9 of which were at the 5th grade in Verona, Wisconsin.  My first year of teaching was in the 2nd grade in Withee, Wisconsin.

My wife Kari and I celebrated our 37th anniversary in August of 2016.  We have two children. Our daughter is married to a great guy and living in Stevens Point. Our son is living in Portland, Oregon.

When I am not at work, I enjoy attending exercise classes, playing tennis, biking, walking, swimming, doing crossword puzzles, reading, being a part of Woodlands Church, and playing the trombone.  I am a member of  The Swing Doctors, a local jazz swing band.

I thoroughly enjoy the daily opportunities and rewards of working with and serving P-W's children, parents, staff, my fellow district administrators and the community as a school principal.  I look forward to the opportunity to work with you as well.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or feedback you may have.  I can be reached at Plover-Whiting by phone at 715-345-5424, or by email: ccoffman@pointschools.net
