School Accountability Report Cards

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) generates a School Report Card and District Report Card for every publicly funded school and district in the state. The Report Cards are intended to help schools and districts utilize performance data to target their improvement efforts so that students are ready for their next educational step – including the next grade level, graduation, college and careers. These public report cards can be found online at: http://dpi.wi.gov/accountability/report-cards.

The current School Report Card is primarily based on last year’s performance, the 2021-22 school year. At the foundation of the report cards are four priority areas. Schools and districts receive a score for each priority area:

Student Achievement proficiency in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics on the annual state assessments (Forward, ACT Aspire and ACT)
School Growth measured by year-to-year progress in ELA and math achievement
Target Group Outcomes examines outcomes for students with the lowest test scores–the Target Group. It is designed to promote equity by helping districts focus on learners who need the most support while also improving outcomes for all students.
On-Track and Postsecondary Readiness showing reliable predictors of how many students are on-track to graduate from high school and student readiness for post-high school success.

The resulting overall accountability score from the priority areas will determine the accountability rating a school receives

The priority area scores are aggregated into an overall accountability score from 0 to 100. This score is displayed in the top left corner of the School or District Report Cards. It is important to note that the 0 to 100 accountability score is not a “percent correct” measurement. Based on its score, a school or district receives one of five rating categories, from Fails to Meet Expectations to Significantly Exceeds Expectations, as well as corresponding one to five stars. Schools and districts are also evaluated on their level of student engagement – chronic absenteeism rates and dropout rates – when applicable.

Here’s some information we’d like to share from our district report card:

The Stevens Point Area Public School District continues to Meet Expectations in the overall score.
Attendance and graduation rates continue to be above state averages.
Achievement scores in both ELA and Mathematics are above state averages.
On-Track to Graduation indicators for both 3rd grade English Language Arts and 8th grade Mathematics are above state averages.
A continued emphasis on all students making projected growth is a priority area for the District.
The District is committed to preparing each student to be successful and will continue to use instructional practices which have a positive impact on student learning.
The district has continued to have more students than the state average engage in Dual Enrollment courses.
Due to a variety of technical issues, our District’s data for Work-Based Learning and Industry Recognized Credentials was not accurately reported. We have included accurate updates below.
- Work-Based Learning - approximately 600 students participated in work-based learning program options (about 40% of SPASH students)
- Industry Recognized Credentials - 46 students earned a credential (3.1% of SPASH students)

We want to share these results with you to highlight some of our successes and identify areas of focus in our district. As DPI has indicated, these report cards are just one source of information about our District.
