Nearly 1,000 community members gathered at the Boston School Forest on Sunday, April 19, for the 2026 Earth Day Celebration, enjoying an afternoon of hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, music, and family fun.

This year’s event featured 38 activity stations hosted by organizations and businesses from across Portage County and beyond, giving families of all ages the chance to learn, play, and connect with nature. From wildlife, forestry, and conservation to agriculture, environmental education, crafts, and climbing activities, there was truly something for everyone.

Families enjoyed activity stations hosted by many valued partners, including the Wisconsin Trappers Association, Spudmobile, Food + Farm Exploration Center, Portage County Master Gardeners, Wild Ones, Plover Clovers 4-H Club, Wisconsin DNR, Eagle Tree Care LLC, Stevens Point Area Public School District Wellness and Food Service, SPASH Eco-Club, SPASH FFA, Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education, UW-Stevens Point student groups, Primates Incorporated, North Central Conservancy Trust, Audubon Society, and many others.

Guests also enjoyed free s’mores, popcorn, and hot chocolate throughout the afternoon, while Tom Pease entertained families with music, humor, and energy that added to the celebration.

In addition to creating a memorable community event, this year’s Earth Day Celebration also raised more than $2,500 to support the new Ski Shack at Boston School Forest. Support came through a variety of community fundraising efforts, including a 50-50 raffle sponsored by the Rotary Club of Stevens Point, Baskin-Robbins’ Quarts for Cause fundraiser, food stand proceeds, and free-will donations from attendees and supporters.

Event feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with families sharing that the event offered activities for both young children and adults alike. Many activity station hosts also expressed appreciation for the organization, communication, and support provided by Boston School Forest staff and volunteers.

Thank you to the many community organizations, businesses, volunteers, and families who helped make this year’s Earth Day Celebration such a success. Events like this reflect the strong partnerships and shared commitment that make outdoor learning and community connection possible.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make the day possible and look forward to continuing this tradition in the years ahead.
