Mandana Bliss Award Celebrates Plover-Whiting Teacher, Taylor Nelson

Stevens Point, Wis.—The Stevens Point Area Public School District is proud to recognize Ms. Taylor Nelson, a passionate and creative fifth-grade teacher at Plover-Whiting Elementary School, for her outstanding service and positive impact on the school community. Ms. Nelson was honored at the May School Board Meeting after being nominated by sixth-grade student Isla Newport for this special recognition.

In Isla’s nomination, she shared:

“Miss Nelson is always a constant cheerleader throughout every challenge she faces. She finds new and imaginative ways to engage her class in every activity. She makes sure every child feels welcome, listens, and is open to new ideas. She’s always upbeat, positive, and always makes her classroom bubbly and exciting.”

Isla’s heartfelt words reflect Ms. Nelson’s lasting influence at Plover-Whiting, where she not only inspires her students academically but also supports their emotional growth and sense of belonging. Beyond the classroom, Ms. Nelson leads student cadets, helps coordinate school assemblies, and frequently connects with students across grade levels, offering time to talk and ensuring every student feels seen and supported.

Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner praised her commitment to students and the broader school community.

“Taylor embodies the spirit of the Mandana Bliss Award. Her enthusiasm, empathy, and leadership make her a role model for staff and a trusted, encouraging presence for students. We are grateful for her continued service to the Plover-Whiting community and the district.”

This recognition highlights Ms. Nelson’s unwavering commitment to fostering a joyful and inclusive learning environment, and her ability to uplift those around her through kindness, creativity, and connection.
