Mandana Bliss Award Honors Reading Teacher at Madison Elementary, Tammy Brooks

Stevens Point, Wis. — The Stevens Point Area Public School District is proud to announce that Tammy Brooks, reading teacher at Madison Elementary, has been selected as the recipient of the February Mandana Bliss Award. This prestigious award recognizes staff members for their unwavering commitment and outstanding efforts toward educational excellence across the district.

Tammy was recognized for her exceptional ability to connect with students and her dedication to their personal and academic growth. She is known throughout the school community for her constant spread of joy and her proactive approach to supporting student success.

The nomination for Mrs. Brooks highlighted her role as a supportive mentor. Student Joan Green shared that Mrs. Brooks often provides encouragement during challenging moments. "She told me things such as how good I did and how proud she was of me." Joan also explained that when she felt nervous about tests, Mrs. Brooks provided practical support. "She even gave me techniques such as breathing."

Beyond academic support, Mrs. Brooks is celebrated for the kind atmosphere she cultivates. "Almost every day, she greets others with kindness, asking how their day is going," Joan continued. "She also makes you feel like there is someone who cares about you."

The Mandana Bliss Award is named in honor of Mandana Hale Bliss, the first school teacher in Stevens Point. As a trailblazer, her service and commitment continue to inspire the mission of our district today. This award serves as an opportunity to shine a light on the remarkable contributions made by staff members like Mrs. Brooks, who exemplify service, dedication, and a true sense of belonging for all.
