Clarification on ICE Rumors and Our Commitment to Students
January 27, 2025
Dear Families,
This weekend, a rumor circulated on social media claiming that ICE agents were present at SPASH on Friday. We want to assure you that this rumor is false. No ICE agents were present at SPASH or any other district school or building.
We understand that immigration-related issues can cause fear and uncertainty, especially given recent national developments. We want to reassure you of our commitment to the safety and education of all students.
What You Should Know
- Legal Protections: Every student has the right to a free public education regardless of immigration status. We are not required to collect or share information about a student’s immigration status.
- School Safety: Schools remain safe spaces for learning, growth, and support. We are here to provide a welcoming environment for every student.
We prioritize creating a safe and welcoming environment where every student can thrive. Our staff is trained to support students who may experience fear or stress related to immigration issues.
Resources and Support
If you have concerns or questions, please reach out to your school principal or the district office. Additional resources and information about your rights are available through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and local organizations.
Thank you for your trust in the Stevens Point Area Public School District. Together, we will continue to foster a community where all students feel valued, safe, and supported
Sincerely,
Cory Hirsbrunner, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Stevens Point Area Public School District
