SPAPSD Partners with Cartwheel to Offer Virtual Mental Health Support

SPAPSD now partners with Cartwheel, an evidence-based teletherapy service designed to fit into the District’s student support systems. Cartwheel provides rapid access to evidence-based 1-1 teletherapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management, parent guidance, and family therapy.

Cartwheel teletherapy is completely free for families who have Medicaid or are uninsured. It is also considered an in-network provider for families with private insurance. Standard co-payments and deductibles may apply.

According to Director of Student Services Jennie McMahon, Cartwheel can assist children who are struggling with anxiety, having a hard time staying focused, or needing someone to talk to. “Signs that your child might need mental health support are changes in mood, declining academic performance, or withdrawing from friends or activities,” McMahon said.

“Families are often the first to recognize changes in their child's well-being that may signal a need for mental health support,” McMahon added. “We encourage families to explore Cartwheel as a resource for accessing professional mental health services."

Telehealth sessions are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday. The services are available year-round with no waitlist. Care is available in over 10 languages, including Spanish.

"Our partnership with Cartwheel allows our district to provide mental health support to students and families right when they need it,” said Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner. “It’s a vital extension of our support systems, ensuring every student has a trusted place to turn."

Individual therapy sessions are available for students in grades three and above and parent guidance sessions are available at all grade levels, providing families with the right level of support at the right time.
