Thank You For Your Support
SPAPSD Families and Staff,
I appreciate your support and understanding as we navigated today’s cold weather. I know that not everyone agreed with the decision to remain open, and I want to acknowledge that these decisions are never easy.
We closely monitored conditions throughout the day yesterday as we were receiving inconsistent forecast information. As we monitored temperatures overnight, we did not reach the -35°F wind chill threshold that typically guides our closure decisions. While some neighboring districts chose to close, each district evaluates its own unique circumstances, including transportation, staffing, and local conditions.
Student safety is always our top priority, and we recognize that extreme cold impacts families differently. Because of this, absences were excused for parents who felt it was unsafe for their child to attend today and shared that message with attendance staff.
I appreciate the dedication of our families, students, and staff in ensuring learning continued.
We will continue to monitor weather conditions closely and make decisions with the safety and well-being of our students and staff in mind. Thank you for your feedback, your trust, and your ongoing partnership in supporting our schools.
Sincerely,
Cory Hirsbrunner, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Stevens Point Area Public School District
