PointProud Schools 2040 Task Force Holds Kickoff Meeting

A PointProud Schools 2040 Task Force member records small-group feedback during the April 29 kickoff meeting. Task force members began reviewing enrollment projections, building capacity, and other factors that will inform long-range facilities planning.

The PointProud Schools 2040 Task Force held its first meeting on Wednesday, April 29, beginning a community-guided process focused on long-range facilities planning and the enrollment, programming, financial, and student-impact factors connected to how school buildings are used.

The task force includes parents, staff members, and community members, along with two non-voting school board representatives. Members were selected to bring a range of perspectives to the process, including individuals with students currently in district schools, staff serving across the district, and residents who do not currently have children enrolled.

At the kickoff meeting, task force members were welcomed by Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner and School Board President Meg Erler. The group also met facilitators Mark Roffers and Nick Johnson of MDRoffers Consulting, who will guide the task force through the planning process.

The purpose of the task force is to help develop a long-range school facilities plan that will inform future decision-making by district administration and the school board. Over the coming months, the task force will study and discuss topics including:

  • Enrollment trends and projections
  • Building capacity and utilization
  • Attendance boundaries
  • Grade configurations
  • Educational programming and student opportunities
  • Full-day 4K and early learning considerations
  • Facility condition and long-term maintenance needs
  • Financial responsibility and sustainability
  • Student, family, staff, and community impact

During the first meeting, task force members reviewed enrollment projections and discussed early questions, observations, and areas where they would like to learn more. Initial discussion topics included projected enrollment changes, housing growth patterns, capacity differences among schools, childcare and 4K considerations, student needs, open enrollment, and how future facility planning options will be evaluated.

No recommendations or decisions were made at the kickoff meeting. The first few meetings will focus on building a shared understanding of district data, facilities, finances, programming, and community needs before the task force begins evaluating possible options.
